Port Huron Icehawks Shut Down Bloomington PrairieThunder 2-0 - IHL

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - PORT HURON, Mich. – Port Huron Icehawks goalie Marty Magers turned away 30 shots on Wednesday to shut out the Bloomington PrairieThunder 2-0 at McMorran Arena.
 
The shutout was Port Huron’s second this season and the first for Magers, who also surpassed 5,000 career minutes in the game. He was backed by a strong performance from center Steve Hildenbrand, who notched his 100th career goal and also recorded an assist in the contest.
 
The game was scoreless for the first 38 minutes of play until Icehawk and former Bloomington player Donnie Margettie notched a goal on assists from Hildenbrand and Brent Hughes at 17:53 in the second stanza to put Port Huron on the board. Twelve minutes later, Hildenbrand scored on the power play to boost the Icehawks to a 2-0 lead.
 
The Icehawks outshot the PrairieThunder 43-30 in the win, marking the seventh consecutive game in which they have outshot their opponent.

= scoreless in three power play opportunities.
 
Magers improved to 12-11-0-2 on the season with the victory, while Bloomington goalie Derek Dolson dropped to 11-17-1-1 on the season, though he turned away 41 shots in the loss.
 
With the win, the second place Icehawks improved to 35-29-2-2 on the season with 74 points in the standings. They currently lead third place Flint by four points and fourth place Muskegon by five points in a tight race to the playoffs.
 
The Icehawks will have a chance to gain more ground on their opponents this weekend when they host the Flint Generals on Friday and Saturday. The meetings will wrap up the season series between the two rivals.
 
Friday’s game will feature a performance from national act the Bucket Boys and a free Hawkettes poster giveaway to the first 500 fans. On Saturday, the first 1,000 fans will receive free team posters and specialty Labatt’s jerseys will be auctioned off.
