Defenseman Jamie Vanderveeken of the Kalamazoo Wings Earns IHL Defenseman of the Month Honors
Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 03:38PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the International Hockey League, announce defenseman Jamie Vanderveeken has been selected as the league’s Pepsi Defenseman of the Month for March.
In his best month as a professional, Vanderveeken shined in the month of March, recording 13 points (4 goals, 9 assists) and finishing the 14-game month with a plus-7.
The native of Sarnia, Ontario leads the IHL defensemen in both power-play goals with eight and shares the overall goal mark with 14.
A three-time recipient of the league’s top weekly rookie honor, this is Vanderveeken’s first-time receiving the league’s highest defensive accolade.
Vanderveeken joins former K-Wing Florian Iberer as the only team member to earn the Pepsi Defenseman of the Month award.

ADVERTISEMENT After five days off and completing a three-game road trip, Kalamazoo will return to Wings Stadium to start a two-game home stand on Friday, April 4th versus the Flint Generals at 7:30 p.m. Friday’s contest coincides with Team Poster Night presented by The Maurer Group, Fed-Ex Kinko’s and WRKR, as well as the final “Flash Back Friday” featuring K-Wings IHL alum, Mark Lawrence.
On Saturday (4/5), the K-Wings will remain at Wings Stadium to entertain the Port Huron Icehawks at 7:30 p.m. on Qdoba Night. Following the game, Kalamazoo will auction off their blue jerseys.
The K-Wings will finish the week on Sunday, April 6th with a visit to the U.S. Cellular Coliseum to battle the Bloomington PrairieThunder at 4 p.m. (CST).
