David Desharnais of Cincinnati Cyclones Wins ECHL Leading Scorer Award

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - CINCINNATI, Ohio – Cincinnati Cyclones rookie center David Desharnais has won the ECHL’s Leading Scorer award with 106 points in 68 games this season.  The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.
 
Desharnais, a native of Quebec City, is the first Cyclones player to ever capture the top scoring honor .  The 5-foot-6, 177 pounder had points in 50 games and had multiple points in 31 of those contests.  David registered the tenth-most points by a rookie in history and the most by a first-year player since 1996-97.
 
For the season, Desharnais led the ECHL in scoring (106), assists (77), power play assists (39) and finished +38 in plus/minus rating to lead all rookies and finishing second in the statistic among all players.  The Cyclones were 44-6-2 when David had a point.  He is also the fourth rookie to lead the ECHL in scoring.

on 38 goals and 70 assists in 61 games.  David also appeared in seven games with Bridgeport (AHL).  A three-time winner of the Frank Selke Trophy as the league’s Most Sportsmanlike Player, Desharnais has signed an AHL contract with Hamilton since joining the Cyclones.
 
Desharnais becomes the first player in team history to capture the league’s Rookie of the Year honors last week.  He has also claimed All-Rookie Team and First Team All-ECHL honors as well    David won the ECHL’s Rookie of the Month honors in November, February and March.  He also established a league record with a 20-game assist streak from Jan. 5 through Feb. 29.  He also had a 27-game point streak from Dec. 31 through March 12, the longest of the season and fourth-longest in ECHL history.
 
Cincinnati captured the Brabham Cup for the ECHL’s best overall regular season record, turning in a 55-12-5 record.  The Cyclones will have home ice advantage for all postseason series throughout the duration of the Kelly Cup playoffs.
