Stockton Thunder Finalize 2008 ECHL Playoff Roster Just Before League Deadline

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons, announced all-star defenseman and captain Brad Farynuk (FAR-nick), center Jonas Almtorp (YO-nas) and right wing Stephane Goulet (Goo-LAY) have been reassigned to the Thunder from Springfield.

The roster moves complete the team’s 22-man playoff roster, which was due to the ECHL league office at Noon PT on Monday. Additionally, it was announced right wing Ryan MacMurchy (concussion) and center Joel Stepp
(leg) will miss the remainder of the season due to injury.
In 28 games with the Thunder this season, Farynuk had 15 points (3g-12a) and 41 penalty minutes before being recalled to Springfield on January 25. Farynuk was selected to the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game and helped guide the National Conference to a 10-7 win at Stockton Arena, the first all-star selection of his career.
The 6-foot, 210-pound defenseman and Thunder captain played in 20 games with Springfield this year, tallying four assists with 18 penalty minutes and split his 2006-07 rookie season between the ECHL’s Dayton Bombers and AHL’s Syracuse Crunch, scoring 24 points (4g-20a) with 62 penalty minutes in 63 games.
Farynuk helped guide Dayton to a berth in the Kelly Cup Finals and the American Conference’s North Division title (37-26-9 record, 83 points) last season, tying for the ECHL lead in scoring among defenseman for the

Almtorp, 24, has totaled 17 points (7g-10a) in 27 games with the Thunder this season. A fourth round selection (111th overall) of the Oilers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Almtorp has appeared in 37 games at the AHL level with Springfield, scoring four points (2g-2a) and registering 18 penalty minutes.
Goulet, 22, has scored 14 points (4g-10a) in 12 games with the Thunder this season and had a nine game scoring streak this season. KELLY CUP PLAYOFF ROSTER GUIDELINES
For professional players who have played for any professional team in 2007-08 and former professional players to be named to a team’s playoff roster, they must have played (i.e. taken at least one shift) in five regular season ECHL games.
Players on two-way contracts with American Hockey League teams must have played (i.e. taken at least one shift) in five regular season AHL games in order to be named to a team’s playoff roster. Veteran players on two-way contracts with AHL teams must have played (i.e. taken at least one shift) in 10 regular season AHL games. Players on two-way AHL contracts who are bought out or released from their contract during the season are still subject to the minimum playing requirement. Players on NHL contracts and one-way AHL contracts are exempt from the rule as are goaltenders. Each team is allowed two players who are on two-way contracts with AHL teams that are exempt from the rule.
ECHL teams must submit their Kelly Cup Playoff roster to the League Office by 3 p.m. ET on Monday.
The maximum number of players allowed on a playoff roster is 23. Playoff rosters will consist of a 20-man active roster and those players who are on injured reserve or recalled. Players who are on recall to the NHL or the AHL at the playoff roster deadline that a team wishes to have eligible to play must be named to the 23-man playoff roster. If a player is recalled off a team’s active roster during the playoffs, he may be moved to inactive status or replaced with a player whose injured reserve time has been completed or by a player returning from a recall.
More information on Kelly Cup Playoff roster guidelines can be found by visiting ECHL.com.
The Thunder opens the Kelly Cup Playoffs in game 1 of the National Conference Quarterfinals against the Las Vegas Wranglers, beginning on Friday, April 11 at 7:05 p.m. from Orleans Arena.
The Thunder has led the ECHL in attendance for three consecutive seasons and drew 239,337 fans to Stockton Arena in 2007-08.
