Cincinnati Cyclones Pick Up Las Vegas Wranglers and 4-2 Win - ECHL Kelly Cup Finals
Friday, May 30, 2008 at 07:37AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - LAS VEGAS, NV – The Las Vegas Wranglers® were defeated by the Cincinnati Cyclones 4-2 in Game Three of the Kelly Cup Finals on Thursday night in front of 6,713 fans at the Orleans Arena. Cyclones winger Olivier Latendresse capped a three-goal rally by scoring the game-winning goal with 1:08 left in the second period.
With the victory, Cincinnati takes a 2-1 series lead in the best of seven series. Cyclones center David Desharnais led the charge with a goal and two assists in the two-goal victory. Cincinnati goalie Cerick Desjardins picked up the win, stopping 26 of 28 Las Vegas shots. Las Vegas forwards Brandon Kaleniecki and Tyler Mosienko each scored in the loss. Goalie Kevin Lalande suffered the defeat, stopping 21 of 24 Cincinnati shots. Las Vegas will host Game Four of the Kelly Cup Finals on Friday night at 7:05 pm at the Orleans Arena.
Las Vegas opened the scoring with a power-play goal by Brandon Kaleniecki. Left wing Kelly Czuy fired the puck towards the Cincinnati net. The puck deflected to Kaleniecki, who scored his second goal of the playoffs at 8:46 , giving the Wranglers a 1-0 lead after one period of play. In the second period, the Wranglers doubled their lead with their second power-play goal of the night.
Just 2:48 into the period, center Tyler Mosienko snapped a wrist shot over the glove of Cerick Desjardins for his seventh goal of the playoffs and a 2-0 Las Vegas lead. Cincinnati would charge back with four unanswered goals, including three in the second period. Forward Jean-Michel Daoust snapped a shot past Kevin Lalande at 12:34 , trimming the Wranglers lead to 2-1.
Winger Matt Syroczynski scored a power-play goal off a redirection of a Daoust shot, scoring his sixth of the playoffs and tying the game at two.
Cincinnati would take the lead for good with 1:08 remaining in the second period. Forward Olivier Latendresse ripped a slap shot past Kevin Lalande at 18:52 , giving the Cyclones a 3-2 lead. Cincinnati ’s Desharnais added an empty-net goal with eight-seconds remaining for the 4-2 final.
If needed, the series swings back to Cincinnati for Games Six and Seven. Game Six is slated for Thursday, June 5th at 4:30 pm (PDT). Game Seven would take place on Saturday, June 7th at 4:30 pm (PDT).
