Boston Bruins Select Five Skaters in 2008 NHL Entry Draft

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – BOSTON, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has made five selections on day two of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, tabbing center Maxime Sauve, goaltender Michael Hutchinson, center/winger Jamie Arniel, center Nicholas Tremblay, and center Mark Goggin.

"I am very pleased with our results this weekend as we were able to take
advantage of the depth of this draft," said Chiarelli of his club's
selections.  "Perfect examples of this were our Day Two selections of
Maxime Sauve and Michael Hutchinson, who we feel can be significant
contributors.  Of course we are ecstatic about our first round pick Joe
Colborne."
In the second round, with the 47th overall pick, the Bruins selected
Maxime Sauve, a 6-0, 170 lb. centerman from Tours, France.  Sauve began
the 2007-08 season with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior
Hockey League and played in 38 games, scoring 12-20-32 totals.  A
December 17, 2007 trade sent him to Halifax where he was immediately
re-routed to Val-d'Or, also of the QMJHL. There, he finished the season
with 14 goals, 19 assists, and 33 points while playing in 32 games with
Val-d'Or.
In addition to his QMJHL achievements, he was selected to the 2008 CHL

TOP prospects game, and participated in the 2007 Canada Winter Games as
a member of Team Quebec.  There he notched three points with two goals
and one assist.  Sauve's cousin Philippe played briefly in the Bruins
organization as a goaltender in 2006-2007, including two relief
appearances with no decisions.  His father Jean-Francois played 290
games in the NHL and was a teammate of Bruins Head Coach Claude Julien
on the Quebec Nordiques from 1984-1986.
Boston used its third round pick, 77th overall, to select Michael
Hutchinson, a goaltender from the Barrie Colts of the OHL.  In
2007-2008, he played in 31 regular season contests and totaled 950 saves
for a 3.02 goals against average and 0.912 save percentage.  He appeared
in eight postseason games, averaging 44 saves-per-game in their
first-round series versus the Brampton Battalion, and recorded an
overall playoff save percentage of 0.941.
Boston then traded their fourth and fifth round picks, 107th and 137th
overall, to Columbus in exchange for the Blue Jackets' 97th pick overall
in the fourth round.  With the 97th pick, the Bruins selected center
Jamie Arniel from the Sarnia Sting of the OHL.  In the 2007-2008 season,
he split time between the Guelph Storm and Sarnia Sting, playing in 20
games for Guelph with 9-4-13 totals, and finishing the year with Sarnia.
There he notched 18 goals and 16 assists for 34 total points.  His 27
regular season goals were enough to rank him third overall on the Sting.
He also played in the 2008 CHL Top Prospects game, where he notched a
goal, and skated for Team Canada at the 2007 World Under-18 Hockey
Championship.  Like Sauve, Arniel has NHL bloodlines, as his uncle Scott
Arniel played in 730 games in the NHL for Winnipeg, Buffalo and Boston
during the 80s and early 90s.  He played 29 games for Boston during the
1991-1992 season.
The Bruins returned to action in the sixth round by selecting center
Nicholas Tremblay with their fifth pick, 173rd overall.  Tremblay spent
the 2007-08 season with the Smith's Falls Bears of the CJHL where he was
the league's leading scorer with 51-59-110 totals in only 57 games.
Prior to this season, Tremblay played for two years in the QJAHL for the
Champlain Cougars, totaling 39 goals and 48 assists for 87 points. He
will enroll at Clarkson University this fall.
Boston's final pick in the draft was used to select center Mark Goggin,
197th overall.  He was recently selected to Team USA's U-18 team for the
Ivan Hlinka Memorial Ice Hockey Tournament.  Goggin plays his prep
school hockey for Choate-Rosemary Hall (Wallingford, CT), and is
committed to Dartmouth for the fall of 2009.
