Bridgeport Sound Tigers Blanked By Manchester Monarchs, 2-0

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -MANCHESTER, NH – Jonathan Bernier made 40 saves and Andrei Loktionov and John Zeiler each scored goals as the Manchester Monarchs posted a 2-0 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Friday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Bridgeport has now lost four straight to drop to 4-4-0-0 on the season.

For the second straight game, the Sound Tigers registered 40 shots on goal. However, for the second straight game, Bridgeport couldn’t put the puck in the net as Bernier tallied his fifth victory of the season. Lawson made 29 saves in a losing effort for the Sound Tigers.

The first period belonged to the goaltenders Lawson stopped 16 shots and Bernier stopped 10 shots in a scoreless frame. The Sound Tigers killed off four Monarch power-play chances in the period.

The Monarchs took advantage of a Sound Tigers turnover to score the first goal of the game midway through the second period. Greg Moore coughed up the puck at his own blue-line to Brandon Segal who went the puck down low to Marc-Andre Cliché at the face-off circle. Cliché found a charging John Zeiler in the slot and Zeiler wristed a shot under the cross-bar to give the Monarchs the lead.

Loktionov made it 2-0 Monarchs midway through the third period. Oscar Moeller carried the puck into the offensive zone and slid a pass through the crease to Loktionov who tipped it past Lawson for his fifth tally of the season.

The Sound Tigers are back in action Saturday night when they host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 7:00 pm at the Arena at Harbor Yard. The Sound Tigers will be hosting 350 Night in support of environmental awareness. For tickets please call TicketMaster at 1-800-745-3000.
