Pensacola Ice Flyers Beat Mississippi Surge 4-3 - SPHL

BILOXI, MS – Despite outshooting the Pensacola Ice Flyers by more than a two-to-one margin, the Mississippi Surge suffered their first defeat of the 2009-10 season 4-3 at home on Thursday evening.

Pensacola got on the board early when a redirected feed from Chris Healey behind the net found the net behind Mississippi’s Ryan Senft at 2:25 of the first period. Pensacola took a 2-0 lead when Chad Rebernik fired a wrist shot from the top of the right circle and Senft thought he gloved it, but only got a piece of it at 5:14.

Tim Velemirovich got the Surge on the board at 17:46 of the first, scoring his fourth goal of the young season, and Mississippi evened the score when Matt Zultek deked Pensacola goaltender Chad Collins to the ice and popped the puck over his right shoulder at 1:30 of the second period.

Lorne Misita gave Pensacola the lead when he broke into the zone and fired a quick shot that beat Senft on the glove side at 10:58 of the third. Rob Campbell gave the Ice Flyers a 4-2 lead when he picked up the rebound of a long shot from Joe DeBello at 14:39 of the final frame.

Josh Greene drew the Surge within one, banking the puck off of Collins from behind the goal line for his second goal of the season at 18:25. Mississipi would continue to threaten with an extra attacker on for Senft, but failed to draw even in the final minutes.

Senft made 19 saves to earn the loss, while the Surge went 1-for-4 and outshot Pensacola by a count of 48 to 23.
