Bakersfield Condors Double Up Alaska Aces 4-2 - ECHL
Monday, November 23, 2009 at 08:26AM Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors (12-6-0-0, 24pts) continued their perfect start to a six-game homestand by defeating the Alaska Aces (8-7-2-0, 18pts) 4-2 on Sunday night at Rabobank Arena in front of 3,542 fans to complete a three-game weekend sweep against their longtime rivals. RW Dan Sexton recorded two goals and one assist to give him nine points (5g-4a) on the weekend. G Timo Pielmeier earned his second win of the week, stopping 23 of 25 shots to help the Condors to a 4-0-0 week.
RW Stephane Goulet scored the first goal of the game at 6:59 of the opening period at even strength. LW Mathieu Aubin and F Andrew Ianiero picked up the assists. But Alaska tied the score on a goal by LW Scott Burt at 9:25 to make it 1-1.
The Condors regained the lead in the second period. With 3:39 to play in the frame, while on the power play and with a delayed penalty coming against Alaska, LW Shawn Weller stuffed home a pass from Sexton for a 2-1 advantage. The Condors out-shot the Aces 11-3 in the second period.
The final period was tight with Alaska picking up the pace, but it was Sexton who scored on a breakaway, while shorthanded, at 8:49 for a 3-1 Condors lead. F Nick Mazzolini scored on the same power play 51 seconds later to cut the lead to 3-2. Pielmeier had to stand tough in the third, stopping nine of 10 shots to keep the Condors in the lead. Sexton completed the scoring with an empty-netter for his second of the game and 13th of the season.
Bakersfield out-shot Alaska 31-25. Both teams went 1-for-5 on the power play.
