Erie Otters Thwarted By Owen Sound Attack, 3-2
Monday, November 23, 2009 at 10:32AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -The Erie Otters blasted shots throughout the contest Sunday afternoon in Owen Sound but could not solve Attack goaltender Jordan Binnington as the Otters fell to the Attack in overtime at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, 3-2.
Binnington made 59 saves to record the win for the Attack, including 22 saves in a scoreless third period. His counterpart, Ramis Sadikov, made 41 saves was also played tremendous in a weekend that will be remembered for two outstanding goaltending duels.
David Shields put the Otters on the board with his second power play goal in three games. The defenseman camped in front of the net and slammed a pass from Shawn Szydlowski at 5:40 to pick up his third goal of the season.
The Attack tied the game early in the second period on a tally by Jesse Blacker, as the defenseman blasted a shot through a screen from the slot at 2:26.
Derek Holden scored his first career OHL goal at 10:00 with a shot from the right circle that went through the screen by Greg McKegg and past Jordan Binnington. Mike Cazzola and Zack Torquato picked up the assists.
Just 45 seconds later, the Attack tied the game as Marcus Carroll won the faceoff to the right of Ramis Sadikov and charged towards the goal with a backhand through the stick side of Sadikov at 10:45.
After a frenetic third period in which the Otters outshot the Attack, 22-11, the game went into overtime. Milan Doczy’s stuff-in on the glove side of Sadikov found its way into the net at 2:27 of the extra period to give Owen Sound their third win in four games against the Otters this season.
