Grand Rapids Griffins Edged By Chicago Wolves, 3-2

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Rosemont, Ill. The Grand Rapids Griffins surrendered just their second loss in 13 games on Friday, as they dropped a 3-2 decision to the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena.

Despite his 27 saves, Daniel Larsson saw his career-high seven game winning streak snapped, however rookie Tomas Tatar collected his sixth point (2-4—6) in his last three games for the Griffins (12-5-0-0).

The Wolves (10-8-0-1) struck first with a power play goal just 4:14 into the contest. From the top of the left circle, Jason Krog sent a cross-ice pass to Tim Stapleton who was denied by Larsson on his initial shot, before he buried his own rebound to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Grand Rapids evened things up at 9:41 of the first period when Tatar picked up the rebound of a Patrick Rissmiller shot, and used a nifty move to beat Peter Mannino.

In the second period, the Griffins took the lead when John Vigilante tried a shot from the left side boards, and Cory Emmerton was waiting at the doorstep to slam home the rebound at 7:28.

Chicago came back to tie the game at two goals apiece when Krog and Spencer Machacek entered the Griffins’ zone with some tic-tac passing that ended with Krog scoring at the 17:56 mark. The Wolves then closed out the second period with what would be the eventual game-winner, as Brett Sterling lit the lamp at 19:34, finalizing the score at 3-2.

Mannino turned aside 25 shots in net for the Wolves.

The Griffins will travel to Peoria on Saturday for an 8:00 p.m. E.S.T. meeting with the Rivermen.

Three Stars: 1. CHI Sterling (GW goal); 2. CHI Krog (1 goal, 1 assist); 3. CHI Mannino (25 saves).
