International Hockey League Presents Weekly Awards for October 22, 2007

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Bloomington right wing Don Parsons has been named the National City IHL Forward of the Week, Bloomington defenseman Cory Laylin has been named the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week, Kalamazoo center Mike Bickley has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week, and Fort Wayne goaltender Kevin Reiter has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 21 st, 2007.

Parsons completed the first week of action with three points (1g, 2a) and a plus-1 rating in his lone game this week.  He tallied all three points (1g, 2a) in Saturday’s season opening 5-1 win in Flint.  He netted a power play goal  in the victory. The 38-year-old native of Boston, Massachusetts holds the record for the most goals scored at any level of professional hockey by an American-born player.

Other players nominated for the National City IHL Forward of the Week include: Flint center Greg Bullock, Fort Wayne forward David Hukalo, Kalamazoo center Mike Manley and Muskegon center Adam Segerie.

Laylin becomes the first-ever Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week. Laylin completed his first game with three points (2g, 1a) and a plus-1 rating in his IHL debut. He scored back-to-back goals in 4:12 during the contest in Flint on Saturday (10/20). This is Laylin’s 12th season of professional hockey. The 37-year-old native of St. Cloud, Minnesota was an 11th round selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the 214th pick overall in the 1988 National Hockey League entry draft.

Other defenseman nominated for the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week include: Flint’s Ryan Jorde, Fort Wayne’s Guy Dupuis, Kalamazoo’s Jamie Vanderveeken and Muskegon’s Philippe Plante.

Bickley completed his first week of the season scoring his first professional goal (1g) and a plus-1 rating in the one game played this weekend.  The 25-year-old rookie scored the game-winning goal versus Muskegon Saturday (10/20). Bickley, an Alliston, Ontario native, joined the K-Wings after wrapping up his collegiate career at Wisconsin-Superior. In three seasons with the Yellow Jackets, Bickley recorded 31 points in 57 games.

Other players nominated for the Aquafina Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington right wing Kyle McCoullough, Flint forward Mike Alexiou, Fort Wayne left wing Oliver Legault, Muskegon center Adam Segerie and Port Huron goaltender Marty Magers.

Reiter finished the week with a 1-0-0-0 record, a 0.00 goals against average (GAA), a 1.000 save percentage (SPCT). He recorded the league’s first IHL shutout on Saturday versus Port Huron.  The 25-year-old Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native currently leads the IHL in goals against average and save percentage. Reiter is entering his 4th season of professional hockey.

Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington’s Derek Dolson, Flint’s Chad Alban, Kalamazoo’s Jeremy Symington, Muskegon’s Issac Reichmuth and Port Huron’s Marty Magers.
