Orlando Diaz Named VP of Dominican Summer League by Minor League Baseball (MiLB)

MLN Newswire - ST. PETERSBURG, FL–Orlando Diaz, long-time staff member of the Dominican Summer League, has been promoted to Vice President of the league.  He will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the league with added responsibilities, under the direction of League President Freddy Jana.


   The Dominican Summer League began its 22nd season on June 3 with 31 teams, operating as farm teams of Major League Baseball teams.


   Diaz began work in the league with its inception in 1985. After earning an Accounting Degree from the University of Santo Domingo, he moved into the league office in 1988.  He has also been National District President of the Association of Umpires and Scorekeepers since 1995.


   He has long been involved in baseball throughout the Caribbean and Central America, serving as an instructor of Scorekeepers in Honduras and Costa Rica as well as the Dominican Republic.


   In addition to his duties with the Dominican Summer League, Diaz has been in charge of statistics for the Dominican Winter League since 1990 and had administrative roles in the post-season Caribbean Series.


   Diaz has also worked with the Dominican Olympic Committee and the Dominican Republic Secretary of Sports on baseball matters.
