Lancaster Barnstormers Bring Back Pitching Coach Rick Wise for 3rd Season - Atlantic League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - LANCASTER , Pa.—Barnstormers’ pitching coach Rick Wise will return for a third season and Glenn Murray will be the team’s new hitting coach, the Barnstormers announced today. Wise and Murray will join manager Frank Klebe on the bench for the 2007 season.

Wise, 61, is the only pitching coach in Barnstormers history. He played 18 seasons in Major League Baseball, becoming the only pitcher to throw a no-hitter and hit two home runs in a game, and he has spent the past 22 seasons as a coach. In 2006, his staff posted a league-best 75-51 record with a combined 4.15 ERA.

“Rick was an important piece of our championship team last year, and it means a lot to our club that he will be back,” said Barnstormers director of baseball operations Adam Gladstone.

Glenn Murray brings a wealth of Atlantic League experience to the coaching staff having played for the Nashua Pride from 1999-2005. He is the league’s career leader in home runs (158) and RBIs (528).

“I’m overjoyed right now to be part of the organization in Lancaster,” Murray said. “I lived in Harrisburg for 10 years so it’s basically a homecoming for me. I’m grateful to Adam and Frank for the opportunity to show them what I can do.”

Murray , 36, was selected by the Montreal Expos in the second round of the 1989 draft and hit 26 home runs for the Harrisburg Senators of the Eastern League in 1993. He was traded to the Boston Red Sox in 1994 and hit 50 home runs in two seasons with Class AAA Pawtucket. In 1996, he was traded to Philadelphia and played in 38 games for the Phillies.

“He knows how to hit, he’s been around the game for a long time, he has great experience and I think he’s going to be an asset to the ball club,” Klebe said. “He’s motivated to come to Lancaster and be a part of this organization on his way to, hopefully, one day becoming a big league coach.”
