First-Ever WPFL Championship Weekend Event a Huge Success, Including All Pro Game

San Diego, CA. – It was the first time San Diego had hosted the nation wide Women’s Professional Football League’s championship weekend. Not only was this one of the largest turnouts in attendance in league history, player attendance for the second annual All Pro game was at ninety percent.

“The players that came from all around the league had a great time, we took time out to honor them as athletes, football players, history makers and being the best in women’s pro football” Stated Director of Football Operations and All Pro Director Dawn Berndt.

Each All Pro Member in attendance that participated received a gift bag, program book, their commemorative All Pro Jerseys, commemorative All Pro game ticket, and the opportunity to participate in the second annual WPFL All Pro game. Nearly every team that had players voted in were represented by all of their players or at least one with the exception of the Houston Energy and the Wisconsin Wolves.

It was unclear at press time why the players of the Energy or the Wolves did not participate. One player  from the Energy that came to the event did state she wished she could play but a team management decision prevented her in doing so.

“It is unfortunate when a player is not alowed to participate and enjoy something she very clearly earned, especially when every other team is on hand to participate” Stated committee member and title sponsor of the event, Ann Bagala. The players are the ones that are on the field. They make the stats, they take the injuries, and in my opinion no one has the right to remove them from being rewarded for that”. Added Bagala

The National Conference scored the first with a touchdown by #7 from the Toledo Reign Lea Kaszas but failed on the PAT. The American Conference was scoreless the first half. Then a rushing touchdown by #2 Desiree Weimann of the So Cal Scorpions, a passing touchdown from #82 Brittany Cotton of the Scorpions, and two successful PAT from #91 Andrea Hubbard-Grant of the Scorpions pulled the American Conference ahead 14-6. The National did march the ball down field deep into AFC territory to tie up the game, but ran out of time. The AFC now holds back to back season wins for the All Pro.
