Fresno Grizzlies 2008 Field Staff - AAA, Pacific Coast League

MLN Newswire – mlntherawfeed.com - Fresno , CA – The Fresno Grizzlies today announced their field staff for the 2008 season, as appointed by their Major League affiliate, the San Francisco Giants . Dan Rohn will return for his second season at the helm of the Grizzlies and will be joined again on the bench by pitching coach Mike Caldwell and hitting coach Jim Bowie. Anthony Reyes will join the club as athletic trainer.

Rohn’s first term in Fresno was highly successful, as he guided the Grizzlies to a 77-67 (.535) record in 2007, the second best winning percentage in franchise history. Fresno finished last year’s campaign with the fourth best record in the Pacific Coast League, narrowly missing the playoffs with a second place finish in the PCL Pacific South Division.

The Grizzlies skipper has compiled a lifetime record of 883-865 (.505) over 13 seasons managing minor league baseball in the San Francisco , Seattle , and Minnesota organizations. A two-time Pacific Coast League Manager of the Year, Rohn has captured three division titles and a pair of league championships in his managerial career. Prior to piloting the Grizzlies to their first winning season since 1999 last year, Rohn spent nine seasons with the Mariners organization including a five year stint as the manager of the Tacoma Rainiers (2001-2005). During that stretch, he compiled a 375-340 (.524) record, winning a share of the PCL Championship in 2001. He also guided the PCL All-Stars at the 2002 Triple-A All-Star Game. His first championship came in 2000 when he led the Double-A New Haven Ravens to an Eastern League title.

Pitching coach and former Major Leaguer Caldwell is reunited with Rohn for his second year with the Grizzlies. Caldwell directed a dominant staff in 2007, as Grizzlies hurlers posted the second best ERA in the PCL (4.01) and Matt Kinney led the league in strikeouts (141). The North Carolina native spent 13 years (1971-1984) as a Major League pitcher with San Diego , San Francisco , Cincinnati and Milwaukee . Caldwell had his best season in 1978 when he went 22-9 with a 2.36 ERA and finished second in the Cy Young Award balloting to Ron Guidry.

Bowie is back for his fourth consecutive season as Fresno ’s hitting coach after guiding the vastly improved Grizzlies offense to a .286 team batting average. He began coaching in 1997 with Double-A Mobile and enjoyed a 12 year career in the minor leagues with the Mariners, Tigers, Athletics and Padres organizations.

Reyes is the only new addition to the Grizzlies field staff in 2008, as he assumes the duties of athletic trainer after spending the past two seasons with the Double-A Connecticut Defenders. A graduate of San Jose State University , Reyes has been with the Giants organization since 2004.
