Manchester Monarchs Sign Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough to Two Year Contract - AHL

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - MANCHESTER, NH – The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have signed Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough to a two-year contract, Monarchs General Manager Ron Hextall announced today.

McDonough, a native of Manchester, New Hampshire, has served as the Monarchs' Director of Hockey Operations for the last seven seasons.  His responsibilities include overseeing all player movement between Manchester and their respective affiliates through player immigration and team services.

"Hubie has been a valuable asset to the Monarchs organization since the team's inception in 2001," said Hextall.  "His knowledge of the city, team and organization is instrumental in the development of our young players.  With his experience as a player he helps cultivate a winning atmosphere and we are glad to have him on board for two more years."

McDonough, 44, served as the Director of Hockey Operations for the International Hockey League's Orlando Solar Bears before his appointment with the Monarchs in 2001.  He helped guide the Solar Bears to the 2001 Turner Cup.  Prior to that post, he served as an Assistant Coach for the Solar Bears during the 1999-00 season.

One of the most prolific goal scorers in small college ice hockey history while attending nearby Saint Anselm College, McDonough captured the small college Hobey Baker Memorial Award in 1985.  At Manchester Memorial High School, McDonough, who remains St. Anselm's all-time leading scorer, played for his father, Hubie Jr., before moving on to play at New Hampton Prep.

Signed by the Los Angeles Kings as a free agent in 1988, McDonough enjoyed a 13-year pro career that spanned 955 games, including 195 NHL contests with the Kings, the New York Islanders and the San Jose Sharks.  He was named to the All-IHL Second Team twice (1992-93 and 1994-95) and played in two IHL All-Star Games (1994 and 1995).  McDonough was selected as the Most Valuable Player in the 1995 IHL All-Star Game.

McDonough enjoyed nearly four seasons as a player in Orlando and was one of the team's most consistent performers.  With him at center, the Solar Bears twice advanced to the Turner Cup finals (1996 and 1999), and they appeared in the IHL post-season during all four of his seasons there.

Hubie and his wife Amy reside in Bedford, New Hampshire, with their four children, Hayley, Ryan, Luke and Jack.
