Kansas City Royals Extend Player Development Contract with the Wilmington Blue Rocks for Two More Years

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Wilmington, DE – The Wilmington Blue Rocks are pleased to announce a two-year extension of the player development contract with their major league parent club, the Kansas City Royals.  The Blue Rocks will continue to be Kansas City’s Advanced-A Carolina League affiliate through the 2010 season.

“We are delighted to have renewed our player development contract with the Kansas City Royals,” said Blue Rocks general manager Chris Kemple.  “The Royals are a first-class operation and we are excited about continuing our successful partnership with them.”

The Blue Rocks have enjoyed considerable prosperity as a member of the Royals’ chain, posting a combined mark of 1018-790 (.563) in 13 prior seasons as a Kansas City affiliate.  During that time, the Rocks earned 11 postseason appearances and won four Carolina League Mills Cup championships (1994, 1996, 1998, 1999).

"We are extremely excited that we will be back in Wilmington for the next two years,” Royals assistant general manager and director of player development J.J. Picollo said.  “We believe Wilmington is a great place for our players and one of the best venues in all of the minor leagues.  We have a great relationship with their management team and look forward to continuing that relationship.”

The Royals were Wilmington’s parent club when the modern-day Blue Rocks began play in 1993.  After a two-year stint as a Boston Red Sox affiliate from 2005-2006, the Rocks resumed their association with Kansas City last season.
