Don Money Returns as Manager for PCL Nashville Sounds

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Don Money, who led Nashville to a 75-69 record during a successful 2009 season, will return to Music City for his second year as the Sounds’ manager in 2010, the team announced today.

Money will be joined on the Nashville bench by returning hitting coach Sandy Guerrero and strength & conditioning coach Tom Reynolds as well as a pair of new faces: pitching coach Rich Gale and trainer Dave Yeager.

The 62-year-old Money, who enters his 13th year overall as an instructor in the Brewers organization, has compiled an 815-849 record (.490) in his 12 seasons as a minor league manager.

His 2009 Sounds club led the PCL American Conference Northern Division for the majority of the season before finishing second in the division with a 75-69 record, the 5th-best mark in the 16-team Pacific Coast League.

Guerrero – who guided Sounds batters to a .271 team average in 2009 – returns to Music City for his second year as hitting coach after spending the previous six seasons with the Brewers’ Double-A Huntsville affiliate.

Gale, who pitched for parts of seven seasons in the Major Leagues during a 12-year pro playing career, will serve his first year as a coach in the Brewers organization after spending the 2009 campaign as pitching coach for Class A Hagerstown in the Washington Nationals system.

After his retirement following the 1991 season, Gale worked two years at the big league level as the Boston Red Sox pitching coach in 1992-93 before stepping away from the game for 12 years to spend time with his family. He returned to the coaching ranks in 2006 with Class AA Carolina in the Florida Marlins organization before logging two years in the PCL with Triple-A Albuquerque in 2007-08.

A fifth-round selection of the Royals in 1975, Gale went 55-56 with a 4.54 ERA in 195 games (144 starts) at the Major League level with Kansas City (1978-81), San Francisco (1982), Cincinnati (1983), and Boston (1984). During his rookie campaign in 1978, he was named Sporting News Rookie of the Year after going 14-8 with a 3.09 ERA in 31 games (30 starts) for the Royals.

Yeager joins the Sounds for his first year of service at the Triple-A level after spending the last five seasons with Double-A Huntsville. He was recognized as the 2007 Southern League Trainer of the Year in voting by his peers.

Reynolds returns to Nashville for his third season as the Sounds’ strength & conditioning coach.
